To date 165 SQN has proven the
effectiveness of the weapon system and the proficiency of its personnel in a
series of Live-Firing exercises. The first Rapier Missile Live-Firing was
conducted in July 1984 at the Royal Artillery Range at Hebrides, UK.
Subsequently, more Live-Firing exercises were conducted over the years. The exercises have instilled a
high level of confidence in the weapon system.

The Squadron has also been involved in
overseas deployment exercises. In 1985, Rapier was involved in the first ever
SADA participation in Ex Air Thai-Sing (subsequently renamed as Ex. Cope Tiger)
at Chandy Range and has been benefiting from this realistic training on a
regular basis. The unit was also involved in the first RSAF participation in Ex.
Pitchblack in 1990 and continued to participate in this series of exercises.
Some of which are Ex. Cope Thunder, Ex. Air Guard, Ex. Maple Flag,
etc.
